Shannon Permal
Shannon Permal is your NDP candidate for Fleetwood-Port Kells.
Born and raised in Surrey, Shannon is a proud Indo-Fijian Canadian who, for over 10 years, has been a powerful advocate for youth empowerment, mental health, cultural preservation, and social justice.
She holds a BA in Psychology from Simon Fraser University and has worked in BC Public Service roles from court services to community corrections.
She serves as chairperson of Canadian Federation of Fiji Organizations; a non-profit that builds stronger communities both locally and internationally. Under her leadership, she has played a vital role in engaging and educating local youth in the Lower Mainland.
She fundraised thousands of dollars for the BC Children’s Hospital, Surrey Hospitals Foundation.
She has won many awards for her community service, including the Shakti Award, the Fiji Disaster Relief Society’s Youth Volunteer Award, Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 Under 25 Award, and Drishti Media’s Power of Youth Leadership Award.
She has a deep connection to Surrey and is determined to build bring better healthcare, childcare, and youth services to the rapidly growing city.
